In December 2009, the California Energy Commission approved on an interim basis privately developed compliance software, MICROPAS 8.0 and EnergyPro 5.0, for use in showing compliance with the 2008 Residential Building Energy Efficiency Standards. The interim approval was made because of a staff concern that these two compliance programs should be producing more consistent results. In the intervening time Energy Commission staff have worked extensively with the developers of these software programs to investigate why the programs were not providing more consistent results, and what changes should be made to result in greater consistency between them. That process is now complete and the programs have been revised to address these consistency concerns. As a result some relatively limited changes have been made to MICROPAS, and more extensive changes have been made to EnergyPro. During the course of the review, some relatively limited changes were also made to the public d! omain program, CALRES 2008 v. 1.0.
On June 23, 2010, the Energy Commission approved the use of new versions of these programs for showing compliance with the 2008 Residential Building Energy Efficiency Standards. These approved new versions are MICROPAS 8.1, EnergyPro 5.1 and CALRES 2008 v. 1.1. These new versions of the programs are certified for immediate use. The Energy Commission also decertified the previous versions of this software, MICROPAS 8.0, EnergyPro 5.0 and CALRES 2008 v. 1.0, effective July 31, 2010, for all buildings, except those that are built under the "multiple orientation alternative" where model buildings in subdivisions have already been shown to comply with the 2008 Residential Building Energy Efficiency Standards using these previously interim approved software versions. Buildings that have already been shown to comply under the "multiple orientation alternative" using MICROPAS 8.0, EnergyPro 5.0 and CALRES 2008 v. 1.0 may continue to rely on that compliance documentation.
Please see information regarding how to obtain MICROPAS 8.1, EnergyPro 5.1 and CALRES 2008 v. 1.1 on the Energy Commission's website at the address below. |
